BACKGROUND

Driven by a burning passion for community and empowerment with the cornerstone mission to illuminate the paths of youth and marine stakeholders through knowledge and opportunity.

For three years, the organization tirelessly volunteered in various programs and conferences, igniting minds through the power of social media. Its unwavering dedication culminated in the birth of the Maritime Empowerment Organization (MEO) on December 1st, 2023, officially registered under the NGO Act 2002.

The organization has successfully created a maritime empowerment community welcoming members across the globe to share various expertise, opportunities, and ideas to grow the maritime industry in Tanzania.

MEO is more than just an organization; it’s a beacon of hope for a brighter maritime future in Tanzania.

Maritime expert, researcher, and blue economy advocate. Founder of the Maritime Empowerment Organization (MEO). She advocates for policy reforms and advancements in the maritime industry. Her work has been integral to creating sustainable maritime practices in East Africa, and she has contributed to the growth of the maritime blue economy. Eliyusta's passion for maritime research has led her to be at the forefront of policy advocacy in the region, and she continues to push for innovation in the sector.

Laulence Nyenye is a maritime expert specializing in shipping economics, logistics, and port operations. As Secretary General of MEO and a Vessel Planner at MSC, he plays a key role in optimizing cargo management, trade facilitation, and promoting youth and women’s participation in the blue economy. His deep industry knowledge, strategic planning skills, and technological expertise make him an invaluable asset to MEO as he continues to drive impactful initiatives in the maritime sector.

With over 15 years of experience in research and policy development, Dr. Limbu has led multiple projects aimed at improving aquaculture production, food security, and environmental sustainability. He provides strategic leadership in financial sustainability and resource mobilization, contributing to the growth of the blue economy and maritime sector. His research has significantly impacted the policy landscape for sustainable fisheries in East Africa.

Elizabeth Hizza is a logistics and transport professional with a background in maritime transport, customs clearance, and supply chain management. She holds a degree from NIT, Tanzania, and has worked with institutions like TAA, TASAC, TPC, and Precision Air Services PLC. Elizabeth's experience in coordinating large-scale maritime operations and her expertise in logistics management have contributed to streamlining maritime transport in Tanzania and East Africa. Her work focuses on improving efficiency in the transport sector.

His work contributes to the development of cleaner and more sustainable maritime energy solutions for the future.

Mr. Benjamin Maginga is a maritime education specialist and career consultant at MEO, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Marine Engineering Technology. He also works with the Tanzania Seafarers’ Union (TASU) to develop strategic plans for seafarers’ advancement and ensure global training standards are met. Benjamin has contributed to improving the education and career development of young professionals in the maritime industry, and his consultancy aims to bridge the gap between education and employment in the sector.
