Our Story
MEO is a Tanzanian NGO registered in December 2023 under the NGO Act, No. 24 of 2002, as amended. Headquartered in 3rd Floor, Life Housing Building, Opp. Sukari House, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. MEO focuses on advancing an inclusive, resilient and innovation-driven blue economy by strengthening maritime safety, livelihoods, environmental stewardship and equitable participation across coastal and inland-water communities.
MEO’s distinct value lies in its position as Tanzania’s only 360-degree blue economy organization, with integrated work across maritime transport and safety, fisheries and livelihoods, marine conservation, mariculture, digital innovation, youth career mentorship, and women’s economic inclusion. Through formal partnerships with InnovateMaritime Africa in Nigeria, MarEnTech in Kenya, and a growing network of global collaborators, MEO connects local implementation with regional learning and international best practice.
Since its establishment, MEO has generated early evidence of delivery and growth. Its initiatives have included an ocean literacy campaign reaching 113 participants from Kigamboni, Temeke, Mbagala, and Ilala; implementation of the WE4D initiative in Pemba, Zanzibar, reaching 358 participants in the seaweed value chain; and leadership of the Ocean Plastic Waste Tracking and Reduction Portal, which recorded 484 kg of plastic waste across two beaches in Tanzania. In 2025, MEO also convened 102 participants, including 68 youth, through its Seafarers’ Seafood Dinner Gala, a platform for maritime safety, youth engagement, and stakeholder dialogue.
MEO combines interdisciplinary technical expertise with sound governance, financial controls, safeguarding, environmental and social risk screening, and a results-based MEAL system, offering donors a credible, locally grounded, and technically specialized partner for blue economy programming in Tanzania.
